Massachusetts Hockey Adds McDermott To 2022-23 Roster

The 5-11, 193-pound, left-shot defenseman joins the Minutemen from Colgate and will be a junior this upcoming season.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey has added 5-11, 193-pound, left-shot defenseman Elliott McDermott to its roster for 2022-23, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Monday. McDermott joins the Minutemen following two seasons at Colgate and will have junior eligibility this season at UMass.
"Elliott is an experienced two-way defenseman who was a leader on the blue line at Colgate the last two seasons," said Carvel. "Elliott plays with an edge and fits our identity well. He has good mobility and the ability to be an effective player at both ends of the rink."
McDermott appeared in 62 games over two seasons at Colgate and registered 19 points on four goals and 15 assists. As a sophomore last season he blocked 80 shots and logged a +9 rating after appearing in all 40 games. The Kingston, Ontario native was a two-time ECAC Hockey All-Academic Team and Raider Academic Honor Roll member.
Prior to attending Colgate, McDermott played junior hockey with the Carleton Place Canadians of the Central Canada Hockey League (CCHL) and saw action in 124 regular season games, totaling 27 goals and 71 assists for 98 points, while adding seven points (3g, 4a) in 14 playoff games. He served as team captain during the 2019-20 campaign as was named the recipient of the Arthur K. Nielsen Award (Academic Player of the Year), tabbed a First Team All-Star, and All-Star Game MVP by the CCHL for his efforts, while garnering the Sportsmanship Award, an All-Graduate Team and University/College All-Academic Team nods.
McDermott appeared in 148 games with Upper Canada College varsity hockey from 201 to 2018 and contributed 63 points on 289 goals and 34 assists.
