Massachusetts Hockey Completes Freshman Class With Addition Of Kennedy O’Connor

The Springfield, Massachusetts, native joins the Minutemen out of the USHL and is a 6-2, 194-pound right-shot defenseman.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts hockey's incoming freshman class for 2022-23 is now complete with the addition of 6-2, 194-pound right-shot defenseman Kennedy O'Connor, head coach Greg Carvel announced on Monday. O'Connor, a native of Springfield, Massachusetts, joins forwards Tyson Dyck, Michael Cameron, Kenny Connors and Cole O'Hara and defensemen Mikey Adamson, Noah Ellis and Owen Murray as the eighth and final member of the Minutemen's Class of 2026.
"Kennedy is another in-state product whose father is a former UMass hockey player, said Carvel. "Kennedy has great size and mobility and is hard to play against. He plays with an edge and is a physical defenseman who also can distribute the puck. He played in the USHL for Omaha the past two seasons and is a warrior on the ice, doing all the little things it takes to win. Kennedy is cut out of the same cloth as former Minuteman defenseman Colin Felix, a high character kid that helps you win."
Over his two seasons with the Omaha Lancers, O'Connor saw action in 97 games and recorded 10 points on four goals and six assists. Prior to his time in the USHL he played four seasons at The Loomis Chaffee School, serving as captain in 2019-20, and logged 35 points (5g, 30a) over 106 contests.
O'Connor's father, Tom O'Connor, played at UMass from 1994-98 and appeared in 132 career games.
