CAMDEN, NJ. – The Massachusetts rowing program concluded the Overpeck Invitational, as both the varsity 8 and varsity 4 boats medaled on the day. The rowing program has just two more races before heading to A-10 championships on May 14.
The V8 took first place, posting the fastest time of all V8 boats both in the morning heats (6:39) against URI and Marist and the afternoon grand final (6:59.20) against George Washington and Rhode Island.
In the 2V8 event, the UMass just missed qualifying for the grand final in the morning heat only to go to win the petite final while also posting the second-best time of all 2V8 boats in both afternoon finals
In the 1V4 grand final, the Minutewomen took a strong third place finish behind Rhode Island and Saint Joseph's while the 3V8 took second in a field of four bats in their grand final. The 2V4 capped a great day for UMass with their open water win in the grand final.
From Head Coach Eric Carcich
''Quick thanks to Alex Canale from Manhattan college for hosting us at Overpeck today. Another windy but quality day of racing for our UMass women. We are excited about the progress this team is demonstrating this spring, and across the board we felt like we took a great step in our journey towards the championship on May 14th. We are looking forward to taking a moment with our weekend off of racing next week when we can really lean in and prepare for our next two-week racing stretch starting April 23rd. We are building."
