Rowing Boasts Successful Day At Eastern Sprints
May 03, 2026 | Rowing
The Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight had second-place showings in their Petite Finals.
WORCESTER, Mass. -- The Massachusetts rowing team put together a successful day at the prestigious Eastern Sprints on Sunday (May 3).
The Varsity Eight and Second Varsity Eight had second-place showings in their Petite Finals. The Varsity Eight (6:30.196) bested Bucknell, Rhode Island, Cornell and Mid-American Conference foe Temple, while the Second Varsity Eight (6:50.114), finished ahead of Cornell, Boston College, Rhode Island and Temple.
"We faced some tough conditions and fast competition in Worcester but walked away with our most successful sprints to date," head coach Eric Carcich said. "I'm really proud of how all crews identified some opportunities from the morning heat and made the adjustments in the afternoon finals. This group continues to act with urgency and energy as we build towards the MAC championships in less than two weeks. We still have speed to gain and as a staff we know this group is hungry to find it. Can't wait to get back to work on Tuesday!"
The Varsity Four finished third in the Petite Final (7:31.914), beating Cornell, Temple and UConn.Â
The Second Varsity Four placed fourth in the Petite Final (7:49.778). The Third Varsity Eight placed fifth in the Petite Final (7:06.413), while the Fourth Varsity Eight was third in a Grand Final (7:17.149). Â
Massachusetts now turns its attention to the inaugural Mid-American Conference Championship, which will take place on Saturday, May 16 at Ford Lake in Ypsilanti, Michigan.
The winner of the MAC Championship, which includes Eastern Michigan, UMass and Toledo as well as affiliate members Delaware, High Point and Temple, will advance to the 2026 NCAA Championship.
