#2 Tennis To Face #7 George Washington In A-10 Quarterfinals

The Minutewomen begin tournament with the Colonials on Thursday, April 28, at 5:30 p.m.

AMHERST, Mass. – The No. 2 University of Massachusetts tennis team begins Atlantic 10 Championship competition on Thursday, April 28, against the No. 7 George Washington in Orlando, Florida, in the Quarterfinals Round. First serve is set for 5:30 p.m., at the USTA National Campus.
 
As the No. 2 seed, the Minutewomen received a bye, along with No. 1-seeded VCU and No. 3-seeded Fordham.
 
The match will be streamed via live court cams and live scoring will be available.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Massachusetts claimed a 4-0 victory over Rhode Island last Saturday to pick up its sixth consecutive win and to stay unblemished in the A-10 Conference, going 7-0.
 
UMass secured the doubles point with wins at courts No. 2 and No. 3. Renata Farima and Anna Napadiy defeated their opposition, 6-1, at No. 2, before Dylan Cannon and Mariya Krasakova took down their opponents, 6-1, on court No. 3. The match at No. 1 went unfinished with Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul ahead, 5-1.  
 
Hack grabbed the first singles point for Massachusetts with a 6-1, 6-0 triumph at No. 3 over her Rhode Island opponent, while Farima followed with a 6-0, 6-2 win at court No. 1, to make it a 3-0 contest. Krasakova clinched the match for the Minutewomen after downing her opposition, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 singles.
 
REGULAR SEASON RECORDS REPORT
Massachusetts concluded the regular season with a 15-4 overall record and a perfect 7-0 mark in the A-10 Conference. UMass also completed its home schedule with an 8-0 record, while going undefeated in the months of February and March. The squad enters the A-10 Tournament winners of their last six matches overall and 15 of the most recent 17.
 
LUCKY NUMBER SEVEN
Farima has garnered the A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade six times in her career, after tabbing the honor in the final week of awards on April 26 on a 2-0 overall week. Previously, the freshman went 4-0, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, to receive the honor on February 8, before collecting the award again on February 15, after posting a 2-0 record in singles play. The Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, native, tabbed the honor on March 1, after going 4-0 overall on the weekend in the Minutewomen's sweeps of both Seton Hall and Holy Cross and on March 15, after aiding UMass to a 4-1 victory at Bryant after posting a 2-0 record, earning a win in both singles and doubles at the No. 1 spot. In doubles her and Vitoria Okuyama defeated their Bryant opponents, 6-2, before she grabbed a point, winning 6-0, 6-4. She garnered the accolade once again on April 5, winning 6-2 with her doubles partner Napadiy at No. 2, before notching a point for UMass at No. 1 singles, defeating her Fordham opponent 6-1, 6-3.
 
The rookie added to her list of awards on March 29 when she was tabbed the A-10 Performer of the Week. Farima is 13-3 in singles play, so far, this season, and 15-3 in doubles competition, going 9-2 with partner Napadiy, 3-1 with Cannon, 2-0 with Okuyama and 1-0 with Krasakova.
