#2 Massachusetts Tennis Drops Heartbreaker To #7 George Washington, 4-3, In A-10 Quarterfinals

The Minutewomen conclude season with 15-5 overall record.

ORLANDO, Fla. – The No. 2 University of Massachusetts tennis team concluded its 2022 season with a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to No. 7 seed George Washington University in the Atlantic 10 Championship Quarterfinal Round at the USTA National Campus on Thursday evening. The Minutewomen finish the year with a 15-5 overall record.
 
UMass dropped the doubles point, as George Washington picked up wins at courts No. 2 and No. 1. The duo of Mariya Krasakova and Dylan Cannon completed their match first, taking down Sarah Bodewes and Lindsay Thompson of George Washington, 6-1, at No. 3. George Washington's Charlotte Bell and Stella Wiesemann defeated partners Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima, 6-2, at No. 2, leaving it all up to court No. 1. Katarina Marinkovikj and Alexandra Vesikallio of George Washington were able to grab the point for the Colonials after winning 6-4 over Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul on court No. 1.
 
UMass tied the match at 1-1 after Krasakova downed George Washington's Thompson, 6-1, 6-1 on court No. 4. The Colonials pulled ahead, 2-1, when Marinkovikj of George Washington defeated Napadiy, 6-0, 6-3, at No. 2 singles, but UMass came back to knot the match up at two apiece with a victory at court No. 6, as Polina Akimova earned a point of her own with a 6-1, 6-3 triumph over George Washington's Alejandra Ramirez.
 
The three remaining matches all went into third sets, as Jonglertrakul came out on top with a 6-0, 6-7(2), 6-2, victory at No. 5 over Bell of George Washington. On court No. 3, Hack took the first set, but George Washington's Vesikallio came back in the second and third sets, winning 5-7, 6-4, 6-1.
 
With the match at a 3-3 draw, all eyes were on the third set at court No. 1. Farima fought back in the first set at No. 1 singles to get ahead. Wiesemann of George Washington claimed the second and third set, though, to clinch the match, 6-7(3), 6-3, 6-2 to send the Colonials to the A-10 Semifinals.
