Tennis Welcomes Rhode Island For Final Regular Season Match

The Minutewomen and Rams match up on Saturday, April 23, at 1:30 p.m., at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis hosts the University of Rhode Island on Saturday, April 23, at the Mullins Center Tennis Courts for the regular season finale at 1:30 p.m.
UMass will look to remain perfect in the Atlantic 10 Conference, picking up its seventh win over a league opponent, and earn its sixth straight victory overall. The Minutewomen also look to stay unblemished on their home courts with its eighth triumph.
Graduate student Vitoria Okuyama will be briefly honored prior to the start of the match for Senior Day.
LAST TIME OUT
Massachusetts downed Saint Joseph's, 4-0, last Sunday on the road to improve to 14-4 overall and 6-0 in the A-10.
UMass picked up the doubles point with a sweep. Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul got off to a fast start, winning 6-1 over their SJU opponents at No. 1, before the duo of Dylan Cannon and Mariya Krasakova picked up a 6-0 win at court No. 3. On court No. 2, Renata Farima and Anna Napadiy came out on top with a 6-1 victory to secure the point.
In singles competition, Krasakova grabbed the first point, defeating her opposition, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 4. Hack made it a 3-0 match for UMass after winning 6-0, 6-2 at court No. 3, while Jonglertrakul clinched the match for the Minutewomen with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph at No. 5.
SCOUTING RHODE ISLAND
The Rams enter Saturday's match with a 9-12 overall record, including 1-3 A-10 Conference record. Rhode Island is coming off a 5-2 loss against Fordham last Saturday.
UMass holds an all-time series record of 43-7-1 against Rhode Island. The two programs first met in 1978, while the last meeting was held on April 18, 2019. UMass went on to win 4-0 over URI on the afternoon at home.
HALF A DOZEN AWARDS
Farima has garnered the A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade five times in her career. The freshman went 4-0, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, to receive the honor on February 8, before collecting the award again on February 15, after posting a 2-0 record in singles play. The Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, native, tabbed the honor on March 1, after going 4-0 overall on the weekend in the Minutewomen's sweeps of both Seton Hall and Holy Cross and on March 15, after aiding the Minutewomen to a 4-1 victory at Bryant after posting a 2-0 record, earning a win in both singles and doubles at the No. 1 spot. In doubles her and Okuyama defeated their Bryant opponents, 6-2, before she grabbed a point, winning 6-0, 6-4. She garnered the accolade once again on April 5, winning 6-2 with her doubles partner Napadiy at No. 2, before notching a point for UMass at No. 1 singles, defeating her Fordham opponent 6-1, 6-3.
The rookie added to her list of awards on March 29 when she was tabbed the A-10 Performer of the Week. Farima is 12-3 in singles play, so far, this season, and 14-3 in doubles competition, going 8-2 with partner Napadiy, 3-1 with Cannon, 2-0 with Okuyama and 1-0 with Krasakova.
