Tennis Treks To Saint Joseph’s On Sunday

The Minutewomen and Hawks compete for an A-10 match at 11 a.m.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis takes a trip to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Sunday, April 17, to compete against Saint Joseph's University at the SJU Tennis Complex at 11 a.m.
 
UMass will look to remain perfect in the Atlantic 10 Conference, picking up its sixth win over a league opponent, and earn its fifth straight victory overall.
 
LAST TIME OUT
Massachusetts swept UConn, 4-0, on Wednesday afternoon in Storrs, Connecticut, to extend its win streak to four. The Minutewomen hold a 13-4 overall record and are 5-0 in the A-10.
 
UConn finished first on court No. 1 in doubles competition, before Dylan Cannon and Mariya Krasakova took down their opponents, 7-5, at No. 3, leaving it all up to court No. 2 for the point. Renata Farima and Anna Napadiy secured the doubles point for UMass, winning 7-6 (4) over their UConn opponents.
 
Krasakova kept it rolling for the Minutewomen, picking up the first singles point of the day on court No. 4 with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph. Napadiy defeater her opposition 6-1, 6-2, as well, at No. 2 singles, before Cannon clinched the match for Massachusetts with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at No. 6.
 
SCOUTING SAINT JOSEPH'S
The Hawks enter Sunday's match 5-10 overall, including 0-4 in the A-10 Conference. SJU is coming off a 5-2 win against Coppin State on Monday, April 11. Saint Joseph's will take on George Washington on Saturday, April 16, prior to Sunday's contest.
 
UMass holds a 6-0 record against Saint Joseph's since the 2010 season. On April 23, 2010, the two teams squared off at a neutral site in St. Louis, Missouri, as Massachusetts came away with the 4-1 win. The last meeting between the two programs was on March 31, 2019, in Amherst. The Minutemen won 6-1 over the Hawks on the day.
 
HALF A DOZEN AWARDS
Farima has garnered the A-10 Rookie of the Week accolade five times in her career. The freshman went 4-0, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, to receive the honor on February 8, before collecting the award again on February 15, after posting a 2-0 record in singles play. The Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, native, tabbed the honor on March 1, after going 4-0 overall on the weekend in the Minutewomen's sweeps of both Seton Hall and Holy Cross and on March 15, after aiding the Minutewomen to a 4-1 victory at Bryant after posting a 2-0 record, earning a win in both singles and doubles at the No. 1 spot. In doubles her and Vitoria Okuyama defeated their Bryant opponents, 6-2, before she grabbed a point, winning 6-0, 6-4. She garnered the accolade once again on April 5, winning 6-2 with her doubles partner Anna Napadiy at No. 2, before notching a point for UMass at No. 1 singles, defeating her Fordham opponent 6-1, 6-3.
 
The rookie added to her list of awards on March 29 when she was tabbed the A-10 Performer of the Week. Farima is 12-3 in singles play, so far, this season, and 13-3 in doubles competition, going 7-2 with partner Napadiy, 3-1 with Cannon, 2-0 with Okuyama and 1-0 with Krasakova.
