Tichy, Hebble earn first home runs of the season.

Washington, D.C. – University of Massachusetts baseball fell, 8-7, to Georgetown University at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy on Sunday afternoon. Nolan Tichy and Cole Hebble both recorded home runs on the day.

Tichy earned his first collegiate home run in the fourth inning, while Hebble had his first in the Massachusetts uniform in the eighth. Tichy totaled three hits in the contest, bringing around two runners, as Hebble's homer brought home three Minutemen. Drew DeMartino also had a two-run double in the third.

Georgetown jumped to an early 5-0 lead, after scoring three runs in the first inning and two more in the second. In the third frame, Tichy took his base after a hit by pitch, allowing Kevin Skagerlind to walk at his at bat to advance Tichy to second base. DeMartino hit a double to center field, sending Tichy and Skagerlind home, cutting the deficit to 5-2.

In the fourth inning, Mike Gervasi walked to reach first base, before a grounder from Steve Luttazi moved Gervasi to second. Aidan Wilde grounded out to shortstop, advancing Gervasi to third base, before Tichy smacked the ball out of right field, as the Minutemen closed the gap to one at 5-4.

After scoreless fifth and sixth innings, the Hoyas grabbed three more runs to extend their lead to 8-4 in the seventh inning. Hebble hit a home run to right center in the eighth inning, to bring home Luttazi and Tichy, as well, but it was not enough.

Zack Given took the loss for UMass, allowing five hits and as many runs, two walks and striking out four in two innings. Danile Livnat came in in the third, pitching for four innings, allowing two runs on four hits, one walk and earning three strikeouts.
