Four Minutemen contributed two hits each, including a home run by Mike Gervasi. Michael Rounds, Kevin Skagerlind and Nolan Tichy each had a double, as the trip also recorded two hits on the afternoon. Drew DeMartino and Rounds each had a pair of RBIs.
Georgetown got off to a quick start, scoring six runs in the first frame, before adding four more in the third and one in the fourth inning. Massachusetts started to chip away at the 11-point deficit, tallying five runs in the seventh.
Gervasi put the Minutemen on the board with his solo home run. With Chris Pearsons on first, Tichy singled to left field, advancing Pearsons to second. Skagerlind moved the runners, with Pearsons in scoring position, after a single through the left side. DeMartino stepped up to the plate, knocking one into right field for a double, allowing Pearsons and Tichy to score to make it an 11-3 game. On a passed ball, Skagerlind reached home plate, while DeMartino advanced to third. Rounds singled up the middle, as DeMartino made his way home to end the top of the fifth with a score of 11-5.
After a scoreless eighth inning, the Minutemen added three more runs, with the first from Pearsons. After being walked, Pearsons reached second and third on balks, before he touched home plate on a wild pitch to cut the deficit to five. Tichy sat on second base after he doubled to right center, while DeMartino got walked to reach first base. Rounds hit a double, sending Tichy home and pushing DeMartino to third, as Massachusetts closed the gap to three. A ground ball to shortstop gave the Minutemen the third out of the frame, coming up short.
