Massachusetts and Holy Cross met twice last season, splitting the match ups. The Minutemen won 6-2 on the road on March 24, while the Crusaders took the game in Amherst, 7-6, on March 31.

Meet the Minutemen
A solid mix of returners and newcomers compose the 2022 edition of the Minutemen as the squad begins its 139th season. Twenty-seven members of the team are back from the 2021 campaign, while eight players join for their first season in Amherst, including five freshman and three transfers.

 Commonwealth Connections
  • Freshman right-handed pitcher Cole Koeppel and Holy Cross first baseman Nate Wolf reside from Boston, Mass.
  • Senior right-handed pitcher/ designated hitter Michael Rounds and sophomore catcher Michael Donahoe both hail from Milton, Mass.
  • Senior south paw Tucker Wittman and freshman infielder Jimmy King reside from Philadelphia, Pa.

It's Going, Going, and It's Gone
The Minutemen have tallied 13 homeruns in 12 games, from eight Minutemen. Steve Luttazi leads the team with three followed by Hebble, DeMartino, and Wilde tallying two each. Nolan Tichy, Judd, Mike Gervasi and Will MacLean also have one home run apiece. Luttazi had a stellar first game with two homeruns including a grand slam, before earning one in game three at Fairleigh Dickinson.

Keeping it in the Family
The 2022 season marks the 56th straight campaign that Massachusetts baseball will have an alumnus of the Flagship campus as head coach. Fifth-year skipper Matt Reynolds is a double graduate (2005, '10G), and was preceded by fellow alumni Mike Stone '82 (1988-2017) and Dick Bergquist '57 (1967-87).

This is the second longest active streak across Division I baseball. Only BYU (62 consecutive seasons) has been led by an alum of its campus for a longer period.

On Deck
Massachusetts heads to Towson, Maryland, for a three-game series against Towson on Friday, March 25 through Sunday, March 26. Friday's game is slated for a 2 p.m. start, while Saturday is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. First pitch on Sunday is set for 12 p.m.
