Massachusetts Tennis Sets For Saturday Doubleheader At West Point

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis team head to West Point, N.Y., on Saturday, February 5, for two matches at the Lichtenberg Tennis Center. The Minutewomen will play at Army West Point at 2 p.m., before matching up against Atlantic 10 rival St. Bonaventure University at 6 p.m.

LAST TIME OUT
UMass moved to 0-2 overall, after falling 6-1 to Brown last Saturday and 5-2 at Dartmouth on Sunday.

During Saturday's match against Brown, Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima grabbed a win on No. 2 doubles, while Danielle Hack was the lone Minutewomen to notch a point in singles play. Hack defeated Brown's Olivia Mariotti, 6-4, 6-0, at No. 4.

On Sunday, Hack and doubles partner Thamonpan Jonglertrakul won 6-3 over Katie Weber and Elizabeth Fahrmeier of Dartmouth at No.1. In singles competition, Farima earned a point for Massachusetts on court No. 2 after defeating Dartmouth's Nicole Conard, 6-0, 6-4, before Polina Akimova secured the team's second point with a 4-6, 6-2, 10-8 victory on No. 6 over Ujvala Jupalli of Dartmouth.

SCOUTING ARMY
The Black Knights head into the weekend's match up with an overall record of 5-3. Army has picked up wins against Bradley University, DePaul, Seton Hall, and most recently Binghamton. Last Saturday, the Black Knights and Bearcats met on the courts for a doubleheader, as Army swept the series, winning 7-0 in both matches.

UMass has the slight advantage in the series with Army, 6-5, since the 2001 season, while the series between the two programs in West Point is tied 3-3. The last meeting between the Minutewomen and Black Knights took place on February 15, 2020 in Amherst. Army came out on top, 5-2, over Massachusetts.

SCOUTING ST. BONAVENTURE
The Bonnies enter Saturday's match up 0-4 overall this season. St. Bonaventure is coming off a pair of 7-0 road losses against Western Michigan and at Cleveland State last Saturday. The Bonnies have also fallen to Loyola (Md.) and Navy.
