Tennis Captures Tight 4-3 Victory Against Rutgers

The Minutewomen return to action against Binghamton at home on Sunday.
AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis secured a 4-3 win over Rutgers University at the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen improved to 3-2 overall with the triumph.
Mariya Krasakova and Vitoria Okuyama got the match going with a timely 6-2 win at No. 2 over Daira Cardenas and Alisa Prinyarux of Rutgers, before the duo of Dylan Cannon and Danielle Hack clinched the doubles point for UMass after defeating Rutgers' Sydney Kaplan and Kristiana Zahare, 6-4, at court No. 3. Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima teamed up at No. 1 and tied 5-5 with Tess Fisher and Minchae Kim of Rutgers when the match came to a halt.
Farima started off singles competition with an early 6-2, 6-1 triumph over Fisher of Rutgers at No. 1, before Hack picked up a point of her own with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Rutgers' Kaplan at No. 3. Rutgers' Jackeline Lopez notched the Scarlet Knights first point of the day after defeating Napadiy on court No. 2, 6-2, 6-4. Polina Akimova extended the Minutewomen's lead to 4-1 as she took down Cardenas of Rutgers, 6-3, 7-5, at No. 4. Rutgers' Kim and Prinyarux earned points with victories on courts No. 6 and No. 5, respectively, but Massachusetts was able to edge out the Scarlet Knights, 4-3.
UMass cap off the weekend at home with a match up against Binghamton on Sunday, February 13, at 1 p.m.
