Tennis Opens 2022 Home Slate With Rutgers, Binghamton

The Minutewomen host Rutgers on Saturday and Binghamton on Sunday at 1 p.m.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis team welcomes Rutgers University on Saturday, February 12, to the Bay Road Indoor Tennis Center at 1 p.m., for its home opener, before hosting Binghamton on Sunday, February 13, at 1 p.m.
 
LAST TIME OUT
UMass improved to 2-2 overall, after earning a 4-0 victory at Army and a 6-1 triumph against Atlantic 10 rival St. Bonaventure last Saturday in a doubleheader in West Point, N.Y.
 
In doubles competition, Mariya Krasakova and Vitoria Okuyama took down their Army opponents, 6-2, at No.2, while Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima won 6-2 over Army on court No. 3, to clinch the double point. The duo of Napadiy and Farima defeated their opponents of St. Bonaventure, 6-0, at No. 2, before partners Krasakova and Okuyama clinched the point with a 6-2 win over their St. Bonventure opponents at No. 1.
 
During singles play at Army, Danielle Hack, Farima and Krasakova all got out to quick starts finishing at No. 3, No. 1 and No. 5, respectively to grab three consecutive points to close out the match. Against St. Bonaventure, Farima grabbed her fourth victory of the day at No. 1, followed by a Dylan Cannon, 6-0, 6-2, win at No. 6. St. Bonaventure collected its lone point on court No. 4, before hack, Okuyama and Polina Akimova notched points of their own at No. 2, No. 5 and No. 3, respectively.
 
SCOUTING RUTGERS
The Scarlet Knights are coming off a 5-2 triumph over St. John's last Sunday and have an overall record of 3-1. Rutgers opened its season with a 6-1 win over Army on January 22, but fell, 5-2, the following weekend to NJIT, for its only loss of the season. The Scarlet Knights other victory was against Drexel, finishing with a score of 6-1.
 
SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
The Bearcats head into Sunday's match up with a 0-3 overall spring record. Binghamton fell to Sacred Heart (6-1), Army (7-0) and Boston University (7-0) this season.
 
The Minutewomen and Bearcats will be meeting for the seventh time since 2000-01 season. UMass holds the series record at 6-0 over Binghamton, with the last meeting between the two programs being on January 26, 2020. Massachusetts went on to defeat the Bearcats, 7-0, on the day.
 
WEEKLY ACCOLADES
After posting a 4-0 weekend, going 2-0 in both doubles and singles play, Farima was named the A-10 Rookie of the Week on Tuesday, February 8. The freshman is 3-1 in singles play, so far, this season, and 3-1 also in doubles competition, partnering with Napadiy. The award marked a first of Farima's career.
