UMass Defeated By Top-Seeded Saint Louis In A-10 Quarterfinals, 1-0

The eighth-seeded Minutemen made a second half push with 11 shots in the final 45 minutes.
ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The eighth-seeded Massachusetts Minutemen made a second half push for the equalizer but fell on the road to top-seeded Saint Louis 1-0 in the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals on Friday night at Hermann Stadium. The Minutemen (7-4-7 Overall) attempted 10 of their 11 shots in the final 45 minutes, including a late attempt by Matt Cence that was saved at the near post.
Cence came down with the ball on the bounce to get off a right-footed shot that was kept out of goal by Billikens goalkeeper Carlos Tofern as one of his four saves on the night.
The Minutemen put three shots on target in the second half, including an opportunity by Nick Zielonka in the 61st-minute on a volley that was secured by Saint Louis. Jack Englebert led the way for UMass with three shots while Evan Fournier added two and nearly found the net in the 53rd-minute on a shot from range that sailed just wide.
Saint Louis scored the game's lone goal in the fifth-minute by way of a C.J. Coppola goal from John Klein. The Billikens played a short corner before finding space for a cross to Coppola at the far post for a headed in goal.
UMass goalkeeper Matt Zambetti came up with seven saves, including five in the first half as the Minutemen kept Saint Louis without a goal for the final 85 minutes of play.
