Swimming And Diving Opens Terrier Invitational Tomorrow

AMHERST, Mass. -Â The University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team returns to competition this weekend with three days of action at the Terrier Invitational. Competition begins in the morning at 10 a.m. and continues in the evening at 6 p.m.
Terrier Invitational
UMass is one of six teams competing at the Terrier Invitational along with Boston University, Boston College, Georgetown, and Fairfield along with Northwestern on the women's side.Â
Last Time Out
The Minutewomen and Minutemen fell at Yale in their last competition on Nov. 5 in New Haven, Conn. Emma Petrovich won the 3-Meter while Andrew Bell took second in the 1-Meter and thrid in the 3-Meter to lead the divers. Beatriz Olivieri claimed a pair of runner-up finishes for the Minutewomen, first in the 200 Fly and again in the 100 Fly. Caroline Mahoney (100 Free), Megan Mitchell (200 Back), and Olivia Mozoki (200 Breast) each added runner-up finishes. Emerson Kiefer posted a runner-up finish for the Minutemen in the 500 Free.
Top-Five Times Among A-10 Swimmers
Three Minutewomen own times ranking inside the top-five in the Atlantic 10, led by Megan Mitchell's current third-fastest time of the season of 56.34 in the 100 Back. Mitchell also owns the fifth-fastest time in the A-10 this season in the 50 Back at 26.69. Beatriz Olivieri holds the fourth-fastest time in the 200 Free at 1:53.00.
Four Minutemen rank inside the top-five of A-10 swimmers this season, with Sam Haddad's time of 2:08.67 in the 200 Breast ranking third-fastest. Emerson Kiefer ranks fourth in the 200 Free with a time of 1:41.59 while Jack Artis owns the fourth-fastest 100 Breast mark this season at 57.54. Jamie Macdonald's time of 4:12.39 in the 400 IM ranks fifth.
Looking Ahead
UMass breaks from competition until after the new year when they head to Smithfield, R.I. to take on Bryant on Jan. 7 at 1 p.m. Both teams head to the Tate Ramsden Invitational at Dartmouth on Jan. 20-21 and conclude the regular season on Saturday, Jan. 28 at home against Fordham at 1 p.m.
