Tennis Opens 2022 Slate With Busy Weekend At Dartmouth

The Minutewomen will match up with Brown on Saturday, Jan. 29, and Dartmouth on Sunday, Jan. 30.

AMHERST, Mass. – University of Massachusetts tennis team will open its Spring 2022 season with a trip to Hanover, N.H., for two matches on Saturday, January 29, versus Brown University, and Sunday, January 30, against Dartmouth College. The matches against both the Bears and the Big Green will start at 1:30 p.m., at the Boss Tennis Center.

UMass will take to the courts for a spring slate for the first time since March 1, 2020 when the team faltered to Brown, 5-2. Massachusetts went 3-10 overall and 1-0 in the Atlantic 10 conference, before the season was cut short due to COVID-19.

The Minutewomen return four members of its 2020-21 team, including graduate student Anna Napadiy, senior Dylan Cannon and sophomores Danielle Hack and Mariya Krasakova. The Maroon and White also add four new members this season, in graduate student Vitoria Okuyama, junior Polina Akimova and freshmen Renata Farima and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul.

The Bears 0-2 heading into Saturday's match up. Brown began its season on the road at Syracuse, falling 5-2, on Jan. 22, before heading to Chestnut Hill, Mass., to compete with Boston College. The Bears and Eagles battled on Jan. 25, where Boston College came out on top, 4-3.

The Big Green enters Sunday's match 1-1 on the year, picking up a 5-2 victory against Army on Jan. 15 and falling to St. John's on Jan. 22, 6-1. Dartmouth will play Boston University on Saturday (Jan. 29) prior to competing with UMass the following day.

Dartmouth leads the series with Massachusetts at 14-2 since the 2006 season. The two programs last met on February 21, 2020, in Hanover, N.H. The Big Green won 4-1 over UMass.
