Tennis Falters In Season Opener Against Brown, 6-1

The Minutewomen continue busy weekend in Hanover, N.H., with Dartmouth on Sunday, Jan. 30.
HANOVER, N.H. – University of Massachusetts tennis returned to action in the spring for the first time since March 1, 2020, falling 6-1 to Brown University on Saturday afternoon at the Boss Tennis Center. It marked the first dual match for the Minutewomen on the season, while Brown improved to 1-2 overall with the victory.
The Bears picked up the doubles point with wins at courts No. 3 and No. 1. At No. 3, Britany Lau and Addison Ahlstrom of Brown defeated Dylan Cannon and Mariya Krasakova, 6-1, before Ali Benedetto and Lindsey Hofflander secured the point for Brown with a 6-4 win at No. 1, over Thamonpan Jonglertrakul and Danielle Hack. Anna Napadiy and Renata Farima earned a victory in double play at No. 2, defeating Brown's Julia Newman and Ryan Peus, 7-5.
In singles play, Ahlstrom of Brown came out on top, 6-1, 6-4, over Cannon at No. 6 to grab the Bears second point of the day. Hack notched UMass lone point of the afternoon, picking up a 6-4, 6-0 victory over Brown's Olivia Mariotti at No. 4. On court No. 5, Brown's Hofflander finished 6-3, 7-5 against Krasakova, before Lau of Brown came away with the Bears fourth point on No. 1, defeatinf Farima, 3-6, 6-0, 6-1. Brown picked up two more wins at courts No. 3, which saw Gabby Soliman of Brown win 6-4, 7-6 (4), over Jongertrakul, and No. 2, as Brown's Benedetto sealed the deal with a 6-2, 2-6, 4-3 (1) win over Napadiy.
UMass is back in action on Sunday, Jan. 30, in Hanover, N.H., to face Dartmouth at the Boss Tennis Center at 1:30 p.m.
