September 30, 2021 | Tennis
AMHERST, Mass. – After returning to the court for the first time in over a year less than two weeks ago, the UMass tennis team is back in action at the ITA Regional Championships this weekend at Army. Massachusetts has six singles players and three doubles team selected to compete, the highest number of selections in program history.
Â
This season, to mitigate the spread of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the regional tournament has been split up into two sections, the first being at West Point and the second being at Penn. The top competitors from each tournament will earn a spot at the Super Regional event, hosted at Princeton University two weeks later (Oct. 15-18).Â
The bracket-style tournament will kick off at 9 a.m. on Friday morning with the first round of 128 kicking off at Lichtenberg Tennis Center and the adjacent Malek Courts. Saturday's action will feature the rounds of 64 and 32, with the competition finishing up on Sunday with the championship matches.Â
