UMass’ Akimova, Hack And Jonglertrakul Advance To Super Regionals

The Minutewomen fought tactfully all weekend to finish with an impressive 14-6 record at the ITA Regional Championships.
WEST POINT, N.Y. – UMass tennis posted a 14-6 record at the ITA Regional Championships this past weekend at Army and will send one singles player and one doubles team onto the ITA Super Regionals.
On Friday, Thamonpan Jonglertrakul and Danielle Hack both advanced with impressive outings. Jonglertrakul needed a tiebreak 6-3 6-7 (5) 10-1 to defeat Francesca Karman of Fairfield, while Hack rolled to a 7-6 (3) 6-2 win over Shelly Yaloz of Boston University.
In doubles action, the teams of Vitoria Okuyama/ Renata Farima and Hack/Jonglertrakul each marched into the round of 16 with respective victories over Providence and Brown, and Army and Rhode Island.
Saturday featured more strong singles performances by the Minutewomen, as Hack, Farima, and junior Polina Akimova all advanced to the round of 32.
Singles action on Sunday saw Akimova triumph in a hard fought 6-2 4-6 10-3 battle over Boston University's Erica Di Battista. The win sealed a spot at the Super Regionals at Princeton for the Novosibirsk, Russia native.
The Minutewomen were also dominant in doubles on Sunday as Okuyama/Farima and Hack/Jonglertrakul each catapulted into the quarters with respective wins over Brown and Harvard. Hack/Jonglertrakul were not done there as the duo out-dueled Army in a Quarterfinal thriller, coming away with an 8-6 victory, also sending themselves to the Super Regionals, which will be held October 15-18 in Princeton, New Jersey.
