September 20, 2021 | Tennis
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Massachusetts tennis team capped off a successful weekend at the Brown Invitational with seven more victories, bringing its weekend record to 23-12 in its first competition since March of 2020.
Â
UMass' 23 wins on the weekend were the second most of all competing teams, behind only Dartmouth's 24. The Minutewomen, who had four student-athletes competing for the first time in their collegiate careers, finished each day of the invitational with a winning record, including a perfect 9-0 record against Atlantic 10 foe Rhode Island.
Â
On Sunday, Polina Akimova and Anna Napadiy each won their singles events (6-2, 6-0 and 6-4, 3-6, 1-0, respectively) over competition from Dartmouth, while Renata Farima also won her singles match over Rutgers, 5-7, 6-2, 1-0).Â
Â
After falling in each of their singles matches to Dartmouth, Danielle Hack and Thamonpan Jonglertrakul rebounded with a big win in doubles over the Big Green, 6-4.
Â
That set the table for Dylan Cannon and Mariya Krasakova, who swept their events with wins in each of their singles matches (6-0, 6-2 and 8-1, respectively) before another convincing win in doubles, 6-4.
Â
UMass will be back in action during the first weekend in October for ITA Regionals in West Point, N.Y.           Â
