Hall of Fame / Alumni Weekend
The men's soccer program welcomes back alumni for UMass Athletics Hall of Fame and alumni weekend. Longtime legendary head coach Sam Koch will be inducted into the UMass Athletics Hall of Fame following 23 seasons as the head coach of the men's soccer team, where he finished as the program's all-time winningest coach. The four-time Atlantic 10 Coach of the Year posted 14 winning seasons in Amherst with three NCAA Tournament appearances, including the memorable run to the 2007 College Cup. The alumni along with Sam Koch's family will be honored on the field at halftime of Saturday's match.
Last Time Out
The Minutemen came away with a 2-1 win in double overtime over Central Connecticut State on Wednesday in their first of four consecutive matches at Rudd Field. Filippo Begliardi Ghidini scored twice for the Minutemen, first in the 18th-minute off an assist from Alec Hughes to put UMass ahead 1-0 before CCSU equalized in the 20th-minute. Begliardi Ghidini scored the game-winning goal in the opening moments of the second overtime period with a strike from range that went over the keeper following an assist from Yosuke Hanya.
The Opponent
Vermont comes into Saturday's matchup with a 4-0-0 overall recording having outscored their opponents 9-0 and are receiving votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches poll. The Catamounts are led offensively by Alex Nagy's three goals and two assists while Nacho Lerech has put home three goals and added an assist. Nate Silveira has stopped 15 shots in 349 minutes in goal for Vermont and has three shutouts with one combined shutout.
Minutemen Among Atlantic 10 Leaders
Joe Leslie currently ranks second in the Atlantic 10 in goals on the season with three and ranks first in game-winning goals. Begliardi Ghidini ranks seventh in the league in goals with two and is tied for third in assists with a pair with teammate Hanya.
