Jeff Trainor Selected By San Diego Seals In NLL Entry Draft

Trainor is the highest scoring midfielder in UMass Lacrosse history
AMHERST, Mass. – Former Massachusetts men's lacrosse midfielder Jeff Trainor was selected by the San Diego Seals on Saturday night in the fifth round of the National Lacrosse League (NLL) Entry Draft.
Trainor, the 64th overall selection in the draft, become the highest scoring midfielder in program history in 2021 when he surpassed Norm Smith (140 points; 1976-79). The Billerica, Mass. native appeared in 62 games with 35 starts on the first-line midfield during his career, and concluded his playing days as the highest scoring active player on the roster with 147 points on 85 goals and 62 assists,
Trainor's 147 points rank him tied for 16th all-time on the UMass scoring list with Tom Malone (1969-70), while his 85 goals are the 21st-most in team history and his 62 assists are 16th-most. He also collected 87 groundballs and caused 28 turnovers.
In his final season with the Minutemen in 2021, Trainor was an Inside Lacrosse All-America Honorable Mention, College Cross All-America Honorable Mention and All-CAA First Team selection after appearing in all 10 games with eight starts on the first-line midfield. A two-way player who appeared on the clear and ride and also served as a short-stick midfielder on the faceoff wing, Trainor finished the year with 18 points on nine goals and nine assists. He provided at least one point in nine of 10 games and had multiple in six.
