Women’s Swimming And Diving Announces Six Newcomers For 2021-22

The group of six newcomers features four incoming freshmen in addition to a pair of transfers.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving announced the addition of six student-athletes to the team for the 2021-22 season. The newcomers feature four incoming freshmen along with a pair of transfers.
Vianka Acosta McKenzie (Amherst, Mass.) joins the Minutewomen as a transfer after spending last season at Sacred Heart. The 2020 Gazette Girls Swimming and Diving Player of the Year was a two-year team captain at Amherst Regional, where she earned a sixth-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke in 2019 and a seventh-place finish in the event at the state meet. Acosta McKenzie also swims for Puerto Rico at the national level and finished 10th in the 100 Breaststroke and 11th in the 200 Breaststroke at the 2019 Puerto Rico International Swimming Open. She also competed with the Amherst Tritons Swim Team and scored 528.85 points for the team for the 2019-20 season.
Anna Kwon (Ellicott City, Md.) achieved multiple futures times and state cuts at Centennial High School and with the North Baltimore Aquatics Club. Kwon posted a fifth-place finish in the 200 Fly at the Maryland Senior Short Course Championships and reached the 100 Fly finals in 2020 and recorded third-place finishes in the 200 Fly and 500 Free at the event in 2019. At the 2018 Maryland Long Course Championships, Kwon won both the 800 Free and 1500 Free and was a finalist in the 100 Fly, 200 Back, and 400 Free. She holds top short course times of 1:51.91 in the 200 Free, 4:56.74 in the 500 Free, 2:03.29 in the 200 Fly, and 2:05.93 in the 200 IM.
Lauren Long (Ashburn, Va.) was a three-time scholar-athlete at Broad Run High School, where she finished second at the VHSL Class 4 Championships in both the 200 IM and 100 Breaststroke in 2021 after reaching the finals in both events the year prior. Long also competed with the Nation's Capital Swim Club and was part of a 200 Medley Relay team that set the CSL record in additional to holding multiple records on the Blue Wave Swim Team. Long was a Honor Roll member all four years and a member of the National Honors Society and the Sigma Tau Sigma board. She holds top times of 1:05.66 in the 100 Breaststroke, 2:22.36 in the 200 Breaststroke, 2:06.33 in the 200 IM, and 53.94 in the 100 Free.
Caroline Mahoney (Cape Elizabeth, Maine) comes to UMass after spending a season at Bucknell following her high school career at Cape Elizabeth, where she won both the 50 and 100 Free at the 2020 MPA Class B State Championship. The team captain and three-time Maine All-State Team selection finished her high school career as a five-time individual state champion across the 50 Free, 100 Free, 200 Free, and 100 Backstroke. Mahoney also competed with the Coastal Maine Aquatics club team and was a two-time Junior National Qualifier and team captain. The three-time all-American in the 100 Backstroke holds top times of 23.54 in the 50 Free, 50.92 in the 100 Free, 55.06 in the 100 Back, and 1:59.99 in the 200 Back.
Hannah McIver (San Diego, Calif.) joins the Minutewomen by way of Rancho Bernardo High School, where she took fifth in the 100 Backstroke and sixth in the 100 Butterfly at the CIF San Diego Section D1 Championship in 2021 in addition to second in the 100 Butterfly at the Palomar League Championships in 2021. McIver also competed with the Pacific Swim club team and earned a fifth-place finish in the 100 Butterfly at the 2021 Speedo Sectionals in Fullerton, Calif. At the San Diego-Imperial Long Course Junior Olympic Championships in 2019, McIver posted a third-place finish in the 200 Back and a seventh-place finish in the 100 Back. McIver holds personal best times of 58.76 in the 100 Back, 2:09.02 in the 200 Back, 57.15 in the 100 Butterfly, and 2:15.06 in the 200 Butterfly.
Lauren Stott (St Albans, Hertfordshire, United Kingdom) comes to Amherst from Loreto College, where she picked up a gold in a freestyle relay and earned the bronze in the 200 Back and 200 Fly at the English School's Championships. Stott qualified for the Olympic trials in 2020 in addition to the British Championships in 2019 and holds top times of 1:06.87 in the 100 Back LCM, 2:19.67 in the 200 Back LCM, and 1:04.98 in the 100 Fly LCM. The County Championships top overall scorer in 2020 also qualified for the regional swimming championships each year from 2011-2021 and qualified for the Summer Nationals from 2016-2021.
