DeDobbelaer joins the Minutemen out of the Ontario Junior Hockey League (OJHL) where he played 114 games for the Brantford 99ers. He is the second new addition to the UMass roster for the upcoming season, joining graduate transfer forward Matt Baker.

"Eric is a Brantford, Ontario native who competes, goes to the hard areas, and is willing to do the little things," said UMass head coach Greg Carvel. "He wore an "A" for Brantford in the OJHL while finishing sixth on the team in scoring. We look forward to Eric adding to our culture and being a glue guy in the locker room as he learns the college game."
