Ferraro Named To Team Canada Roster For Upcoming IIHF Men's World Championship

The former Minuteman recently completed his second NHL season with the San Jose Sharks.

AMHERST, Mass. – Former University of Massachusetts hockey defenseman Mario Ferraro has been named to the Canada's National Men's Team roster for the upcoming 2021 International Ice Hockey Federation Men's World Championship, which will be held May 21-June 6 in Riga, Latvia, it was announced recently.
 
Since turning pro following his sophomore season at UMass in 2018-19, Ferraro has appeared in 117 career games with the San Jose Sharks, logging 28 points on three goals and 25 assists. This year with San Jose he totaled 17 points (1g, 16a) in 56 contests.
 
Over two seasons at UMass, Ferraro played in 80 of a possible 80 games and registered 37 points on six goals and 31 assists. The King City, Ontario native was selected to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team in 2017-18 and was named a Third Team Hockey East All-Star in 2018-19. Prior to his freshman season, Ferraro was selected by the Sharks with the 49th pick overall in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft.
 
Canada opens the 2021 IIHF World Championship on Friday, May 21 at Arena Riga against host Latvia with preliminary-round games through Tuesday, June 1.
