Women's Track & Field Takes Second At New England Championships

The Minutewomen collected six medals on day two.
NEW BRITAIN, Conn. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field collected six medals on the way to a second place team finish at the New England Championships on Saturday at Central Connecticut's Veteran's Stadium. The Minutewomen totaled 83 points, trailing only Rhode Island's 187.

Senior Jada Harris earned silver in 100 meter hurdles with a time of 13.86 seconds. UMass scored two in 400 meter hurdles with freshman Lillian Kirry grabbing silver at 1 minute, 0.76 seconds and freshman Alexandra Gonet placed seventh in 1 minute, 4.19 seconds.

Freshman Faith Richardson took home bronze in 100 meter dash with a time of 12.23 seconds. Harris, Kirry and Richardson teamed up with Caroline Schissel to pick up bronze in the 4x100m, combining for a time of 47.31, the fifth fastest time in program history.

Danielle Notarfrancesco earned a bronze medal in shot put with a toss of 45 feet, 10.75 inches, while Lauren LaDere followed in fourth with a mark of 44 feet, 2.5 inches.

Kira Kopec garnered silver in heptathlon with a score of 4694 points after closing out the competition with a win in 800 meter run, running 2 minutes, 30.43 seconds for 637 points. She picked up 482 points with a fourth place finish in javelin (99'04") and was fifth in long jump (16'11.5", 606 points).
