Women's Track & Field Fourth After Day One At Atlantic 10 Championships

Figueroa earns silver in hammer throw and the Minutewomen opened the meet with three new top-five all-time performances.
FAIRFAX, VA. – University of Massachusetts women's track and field earned its first medal in hammer throw since 2004 and set three new top-five all-time marks on day one of the Atlantic 10 Championships at George Mason Stadium on Saturday. Through six scored events, the Minutewomen sit fourth in the team standings with 26.5 points, while George Mason leads the pack with 61.5 points.
Freshman Cheyenne Figueroa led a trio of scorers in hammer throw as her toss of 178 feet, 8 inches earned her a silver medal. Voski Armenakyan and Danielle Notarfrancesco scored in the event as well, taking sixth and seventh with marks of 164'4" and 163'9", respectively.
In javelin, Anna Cozzolino finished just off the podium, taking fourth with a throw of 141 feet, 7 inches to rank third all-time in program history. Courtney Danielsen also placed in the scoring, taking eighth with a mark of 100'8".
Senior Jada Harris claimed fourth in long jump with the No. 3 all-time UMass mark of 19 feet, 5.5 inches and Danielle Reicherts landed eighth at 18 feet, 8 inches.
On the track, freshman Lily Robinson ran to eighth in the 10K, clocking in at 36:54.79, moving up to third all-time in program history with the fastest UMass performance in the event since 2008.
Rounding out the scorers on the day for the Minutewomen, Sophia Casciano tied for eighth in pole vault, matching her personal best with a height of 11 feet, 2.25 inches.
UMass sent three into Sunday's finals on the track as Harris ran 13.88 in 100 meter hurdles preliminaries, placing second, and Lillian Kirry was eighth in 14.54. Kirry also advanced to finals in 400 meter hurdles with her sixth-place time of 1 minute, 1.79 seconds.
Through four events, Kira Kopec sits fourth in heptathlon with a score of 2,874 points, bolstered by a first-place showing in shot put (37'10.5", 631 points) and a third-place effort in 200 meter dash (26.12, 787 points). Senior Emma Jones is currently eighth with a score of 2,557.
Action resumes at the Atlantic 10 Championships tomorrow, May 2, with men's decathlon 110 meter hurdles at 9 a.m.
