Late Goal Helps Minutemen Secure Draw On The Road At Fordham

April 03, 2021 | Men's Soccer

Logan Brown headed home the equalizer in the 88th-minute off a Ben Shepherd assist.

BRONX, N.Y. Logan Brown headed home his first goal of the season in the 88th-minute to help the University of Massachusetts men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw on the road at Fordham Saturday morning. The Minuteman (6-1-2 Overall, 2-1-2 Atlantic 10) offense found their rhythm in the second half on their way to outshooting the Rams (4-0-2 Overall, 2-0-2 Atlantic 10) 17 to nine through 110 minutes of play.

Fordham struck first in the second half to go ahead 1-0, taking the lead on a Max Rogers shot from outside of the 18-yard box that hit the far post and ricocheted into goal in the 58th-minute of play.

The Minutemen had multiple good looks at the equalizing goal down the stretch, first on a Ben Shepherd free kick from 30-yards out that found Graham Brenner in the box for a header that was saved away by Fordham keeper Josh Levine. Levine finished with four saves on five UMass shots on target.

UMass capitalized moments later on another free kick from Shepherd, this one from 35-yards out. Shepherd sent one in that connected with Brown on his run for the header that tied things up at 1-1 in the 88th-minute.

Both teams got good looks on target in the overtime periods as the squads pushed for the game-winning goal. Ryan Levay sent a low, driven shot towards goal in the 96th-minute that was blocked before Filippo Begliardi Ghidini forced Levine into a save in the 101st-minute.

Marvyn Dorchin sealed the draw in the closing moments of action with one of his three saves, saving the shot on his right while moving to the left with under five seconds remaining to deny Luke McNamara's shot at the game-winner.

The Minutemen wrap up the regular season schedule a week from today on April 10 when they head to Kingston, R.I. for a rematch against Rhode Island at 7 p.m.
