Program's all-time leading midfielder scorer chosen in third round with 18th overall pick
LOS ANGELES - Premier Lacrosse League's (PLL) Archers LC franchise selected University of Massachusetts men's lacrosse midfielder Jeff Trainor in the third round with the 18th overall selection during the PLL Collegiate Draft on Monday evening. Trainor is the second player drafted into the recently-established league and the fourth all-time to earn a roster spot alongside Will Manny, Isaac Paparo and Sean Sconone.
Trainor enters the final week of the 2021 regular season with 145 career points on 83 goals and 62 assists in 60 games played. A two-way midfielder who rarely leaves the field, Trainor also owns 86 groundballs and 27 caused turnovers. He is the highest scoring midfielder in team history and currently ranks 18th in team history with his 145 points. His 62 career assists also rank 18th-most among all-time team records while his 83 goals are only four away from tying Chris Corin (1978-81) for 20th all-time.
The Billerica, Massachusetts, native made significant offensive contributions in each of his five seasons with the program. He opened with 22 points as a rookie in 2017, followed with a career-best 50 during his sophomore campaign, registered 37 in 2019 and tallied 20 during the abbreviated 2020 season. A nominee for the Tewaaraton Award upon the onset of the 2021 campaign, Trainor totaled 16 points through eight games as a graduate student this spring.
Trainor joins Manny on the Archers LC, which finished the 2020 PLL season with a 4-2 overall record.
Massachusetts concludes the 2021 regular season at No. 12 Delaware on Fri., April 30 at 5 p.m.
