Gouldsbury’s OT Strike Lifts UMass Past Rhode Island, 1-0

KINGSTON, R.I. – Olivia Gouldsbury's first goal of the season proved to be the game-winner as the Massachusetts women's soccer team (5-2-1, 4-0-1) came through in the clutch once again as the Minutewomen topped Rhode Island in overtime on a rainy Sunday afternoon at the URI Soccer Complex, 1-0.
The goal came in the 100th minute off a cross from Serena Ahmed to help UMass to a 4-0-1 start to league play and extend the Minutewomen's unbeaten streak to five games.
Bella Mendoza (two saves) and the Massachusetts back line was strong as always to extend UMass' shutout streak to 255:26. The Minutewomen have clean sheets in four of the last five games and only have one goal allowed in league play this season.
UMass outshot the Rams 9-8 in the match (5-2 shots on goal) and earned seven corners. Teresa Morrissey made four saves for Rhode Island.
Massachusetts will be back in action on Wednesday at Saint Joseph's (3 p.m.).
