Weekend Scenery
Massachusetts hosts a pair of weekend games at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex with the arrival of Maine on Fri., March 12 at 1 p.m. and UMass Lowell on Sun., March 14 at Noon.

UMass and Maine last met during the 2014 season when the Minutewomen secured a 3-2 victory in overtime at Richard F. Garber Field. Brooke Sabia scored twice, including a penalty stroke, before then-freshman Melanie Kreusch provided the OT gamewinner in the 74th minute. Kreusch scored on a diving goal three minutes and 49 seconds into overtime following a pass from classmate Sarah Hawkshaw.

The Minutewomen meet the River Hawks for the eighth time since UMass Lowell elevated to NCAA Division I prior to the 2013 season. UMass won each of the seven prior meetings, including most recently by a 2-1 margin in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Oct. 29, 2019. Bella Ianni provided the decisive goal in the 50th minute.

The Kennedy Cup
The University of Massachusetts and UMass Lowell continue the annual Kennedy Cup contest between the teams with Sunday's game at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex. The game is named for alumnus John F. Kennedy, a graduate of UMass Lowell (1970) and the University of Massachusetts ('76) who is a strong supporter of athletics at both institutions. The seven victories by the Minutewomen include by margins of 6-0 (2013), 3-1 (2014), 4-3 (2015), 8-0 (2016), 2-0 (2017) and 2-1 (2018, '19).

Weekly Awards Sweep
Massachusetts took home all three Atlantic 10 Conference weekly awards on Tues., March 9. It included Offensive Player of the Week Georgie McTear, Defensive Player of the Week Josie Rossbach and Rookie of the Week Josephine Ang. McTear scored on a penalty stroke at Northeastern and followed with an assist against Vermont. Rossbach assisted on a goal at Northeastern and provided stellar play at center back in both of the victories. Ang scored once each in the wins over the Huskies and Catamounts.

Team Leadership Announced
UMass field hockey elected a four-woman leadership group ahead of the 2021 spring season. The quartet includes team co-captains Sophie Johnson and Georgie McTear, as well as Jess Beech and Emilie Keij. The team elected the captains and leadership group through a player-wide vote.

A Dependable Center "Bach"
Now-sophomore Josie Rossbach started at center back for the Minutewomen during the 2019 season and played a team-high 1,181 minutes of a possible 1,226 during the 20-game season (96.3 percent). Her total time played breaks down to 59 minutes, five seconds per appearance. She is the first Minutewoman to start at center back as a true freshman since Lauren Allymohamed did so in 2011.
