THE OPENING TIP: THE MASSACHUSETTS-VCU PREVIEW

• It's been 26 days since UMass women's basketball last saw game action as the Minutewomen return to the hardwood on Fri., Feb. 26 in a 7:30 p.m. game vs. VCU. The Atlantic 10 announced earlier this week that the game would be played at the Ryan Center on the campus of the University of Rhode Island, and this move also applies to Sunday's contest vs. Richmond (4:30 p.m.).

• ESPN+ will carry Friday's game with Stone Freeman on play-by-play.

• In addition this will mark UMass' annual Play4Kay game, as well as the team's Social Justice Awareness Game. The Minutewomen will be wearing pink uniforms in support of the Play4Kay initiative and the fight against breast cancer.

• The Social Justice Awareness initiative is an Atlantic 10-wide partnership with Athletes Driving Change. Founded by Dayton women's basketball student-athlete Araion Bradshaw, ADC promotes permanent change toward equality through the voices of Atlantic 10 female athletes using a unified and inclusive platform.

• UMass is looking to snap out of a three-game losing streak, last falling to La Salle by a 69-63 score on Jan. 31 in Amherst. Senior Sam Breen once again contributed a double-double effort with 15 points to go with 11 rebounds. Sophomore Sydney Taylor and freshman Ber'Nyah Mayo added 11 points each, and graduate student Maddie Sims added a major presence on the glass with five of her seven rebounds coming at the offensive end.

• Breen's double-double vs. La Salle was her league-leading 10th of the year.

• The Minutewomen absolutely dominated the rebounding margin vs. La Salle, 46-28, including a +11 advantage on the offensive glass that resulted in 23 second chance points. The 20 total offensive rebounds for the squad are tied for the most since the 2018-19 season.

• Junior Destiney Philoxy continues to position herself as one of the nation's top ball distributors. Philoxy (7 apg) sits third in Division I in assists per game and has contributed eight or more dimes in seven games this season. The co-captain's total assists (105) are No. 19 in the country.

• The Minutewomen close out the Atlantic 10 regular season slate on Sun., Feb. 28 in a 4:30 p.m. game vs. Richmond at the Ryan Center. The Atlantic 10 Championship presented by Air Force Reserve will be held at VCU's Siegel Center from March 10-14. Seedings, bracket and further information will be announced by the A-10 once finalized.
