Women’s Swimming And Diving Adds Five Student-Athletes To Roster

The newest group of Minutewomen features four swimmers and one diver from five different states.

AMHERST, Mass. University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving team announced the addition of five student-athletes to the roster for the upcoming season on Friday afternoon. The newest group of Minutewomen features four swimmers and one diver from five different states.
 
Maggie Desmond (Colchester, Vt.) joins the Minutewomen after setting Vermont state records in both the 50 Free and 100 IM at Colchester. The Colchester Class of 2020 Spirit Award winner also competed with Burlington YMCA Dynamo, where she qualified for the YMCA Nationals meet three years in a row. The Burlington YMCA team captain was the first swimmer in the program's history to reach the national meet while qualifying for the Speedo Sectionals Eastern Zone two years in a row. Desmond holds personal best times of 23.95 in the 50 Free, 52.39 in the 100 Free, and 1:05.48 in the 100 Breast.
 
Grace Magee (Norwell, Mass.) was a 2019 Massachusetts State Champion and a two-time Massachusetts South Sectional Champ at Norwell. The four-time league champion and all-star holds the Norwell school record in the 1-Meter with a six-dive score of 308.85 and never lost a competition in league action during her four-year career. The 2020 South Shore League Athlete of the Year also was a seven-time qualifier for the national meet and holds top scores of 308.85 in the 1-Meter and 398.80 in the 3-Meter over nine dives. Magee was also a member of the National Honor Society at Norwell and was an AP Scholar and a two-time Patriot Ledger All-Scholastic Athlete.
 
Maddie Mara (Gaithersburg, Md.) comes to Amherst after setting a pair of school records in both the 100 Breaststroke and 200 Medley Relay at the Academy of the Holy Cross. Mara earned NISCA All-American Consideration for her time in the 100 Breaststroke with the Rockville Montgomery Swim Club and holds personal-best times of 1:03.96 in the 100 Breaststroke and 2:18.19 in the 200 Breaststroke. Mara was also a National Honor Society member and a President's List honoree at the Academy of the Holy Cross.
 
Megan Mitchell (Western Springs, Ill.) joins the Minutewomen by way of Lyons Township and Hinsdale Swim Club, where she recorded top times of 56.51 in the 100 Back and 2:00.52 in the 200 Back. The National Honor Society member reunites with her sisters Paige and Katie on the UMass team.
 
Bri Williams (Maywood, N.J.) was a three-time Bergen County Champion in the 100 Backstroke at Hackensack High School. Williams holds the Bergen County record in the 100 Back with a time of 55.06 and claimed three league titles in the event while winning the league crown in the 50 Free four times. The Scholastic All-American also competed with Wyckoff Sharks YMCA and attended both the YMCA Nationals and Junior Nationals. Williams also holds a pair of club team records with times of 55.05 in the 100 Back and 1:59.74 in the 200 Back. She also holds top times of 24.25 in the 50 Free, 53.49 in the 100 Free and 58.33 in the 100 Fly.
