Men’s Swimming And Diving Adds Nine To 2020-21 Roster

The class features four athletes from Massachusetts in addition to newcomers from Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Minnesota and New Jersey.

AMHERST, Mass. University of Massachusetts Head Men's Swimming and Diving Coach Russ Yarworth announced the addition of nine student-athletes to the roster for incoming head coach Sean Clark's first season at the helm in 2020-21. The Class of 2024 features four athletes from Massachusetts in addition to newcomers from Colorado, Connecticut, Georgia, Minnesota and New Jersey.
 
Jack Artis (Medford, N.J.) comes to Amherst out of Shawnee High School, where he earned first-team all-state honors in the 200 Individual Medley. Artis picked up a pair of runner-up finishes at the New Jersey Meet of Champions, taking second in both the 100 Breast and 200 IM. The SJISA Scholar Athlete and Scholastic All-American also swam for the South Jersey Aquatic Club out of Voorhees, N.J.
 
Freddie Borg (Sudbury, Mass.) joins UMass as a third-generation Minuteman out of Lincoln-Sudbury high School. Borg swam for the Shawmut-Crimson Aquatic Club and was a Junior National qualifier in the 100 Breast with a time of 1:06.09. The breaststroker claimed the New England Age Group Championship in the 100-yard Breaststroke with a time of 57.82 and added wins in both the 50 and 100-meter Breaststroke to go along with a top-five finish in the 200 Breaststroke.
 
Wilson Dubois (Alpharetta, Ga.) was a four-year letterwinner at Milton High School in Georgia, where he recorded a third-place finish at the 2020 Georgia State Championships in the 500 Free with a swim of 4:33.87 to go along with a runner-up finish in the 400 Free Relay at the state meet in 2018. The two-time Milton Most Valuable Swimmer is part of program records in both the 200 and 400 Free Relays. Dubois achieved the Winter Junior Nationals time standard in the 1650 Free with a time of 15:34.92 and swam for Swim Atlanta's Senior Select Team in 2019 and 2020. The two-time Milton team captain earned the Milton High School Coaches Award for Service and Leadership in 2020 and was a two-year member of the National Honor Society and Mu Alpha Theta.
 
Eric Eastham (West Springfield, Mass.) was a two-year team captain at West Springfield High School, where he claimed two individual state titles in the 200 Freestyle and one in the 100 Freestyle. Eastham also swam for the Pioneer Valley Aquatic Avengers, qualifying for the Junior Nationals with a time of 1:39.32 in the 200 Free and a time of 1:49.58 in the 200 Backstroke.
 
Sam Haddad (Springfield, Mass.) swam four years at Williston-Northampton School, where he was a four-time NEPSAC 200 IM champion while posting a recent time of 1:52.35 at the 2020 Division 2 NEPSAC Championship while winning the 100 Breaststroke crown three times. Haddad swam for the Pioneer Valley Aquatic Avengers, where he posted his best long course times at the Futures 2019 Championships in the 200 Breast LCM (2:23.92) and 200 IM LCM (2:11.76). Haddad also added his best short course times at the Speedo Winter Junior Nationals, clocking a time of 57.56 in the 100 Breast and 2:05.19 in the 200 Breast.
 
Brody McLean (Falmouth, Mass.) joins the Minutemen after competing with the South Shore Diving Club, where he took part in the 2019 AAU National Championship in Riverside, Calif. McLean holds top 10-dive scores of 388.15 in the 1-Meter and 359.55 in the 3-Meter. McLean was a member of the Art Honor Society at Falmouth High School and was selected to represent his school in the Cape Cod Art Association's art show.
 
Juan Montori (Rochester, Minn.) comes to Massachusetts from Minnesota, where he attended Lourdes High School while earning four letters and four all-conference honors with the co-op team at John Marshall High School. Montori also swam for 10 years with the Rochester Swim Club, earning the program's first ever team captain designation. The Rochester native broke team records in the 400 Medley Relay, 200 Free Relay and 400 Free Relay while the 200 Free Relay team won the 2020 short course championship in Minnesota. Montori holds personal best times of 21.42 in the 50 Free, 47.32 in the 100 Free, 51.99 in the 100 Fly and 1:45.17 in the 200 Free.
 
James Ragusa (New Canaan, Conn.) helped New Canaan High School to a 2019 Class L team championship after winning the 1-Meter title with a score of 483.50. Ragusa posted a top-three finish at the meet in 2018 and a top-five finish in 2017 and helped guide New Canaan to second-place finishes at the 2019 and 2020 FCIAC Championships. Ragusa also competed with the Whirlwind Diving Club, where he posted a pair of top-20 finishes at the 2019 USA Diving Junior Region 2 Championships to go along with a third-place showing in the 1-Meter quarterfinals at the 2017 USA Diving National Championships.
 
Jake Russell (Centennial, Colo.) joins the Minutemen from Cherry Creek High School, where he was a team captain and part of the squad for four years. Russell helped Cherry Creek to a gold in the 200 Medley Relay at the 2019 Colorado State Championships and added a fifth-place finish in the 100 Back. The 2019 All-America First-Team qualifier earned a spot at the Junior Nationals with a time of 49.39 in the 100 Back.
