The Need to Knows

• It's tournament time in the Atlantic 10 Conference as First Round action tips off on Tuesday night. Seeded fifth, Massachusetts hosts No. 12 seed St. Bonaventure at the Mullins Center in a First Round game scheduled for 7 p.m. Jim Cain (PxP) and Dan Lovallo (color) will have the call on ESPN+ and NESNplus.

• The winner of Tuesday's game will advance to the Atlantic 10 Quarterfinals and face either No. 4 Saint Louis or No. 13 George Mason on Friday at UD Arena in Dayton, Ohio. Tip in that quarterfinal game will be at 2 p.m.

• Tuesday night marks the first A-10 Tournament game to be played in the Mullins Center since the league title game on March 2, 1998. That day, the Minutewomen fell, 66-64, to Virginia Tech in an overtime heartbreaker. The No. 5 seed this year is the highest for Massachusetts since 2005-06.

• UMass enters the tournament winners of three straight, most recently a 73-53 win at home over Rhode Island on Sat., Feb. 29. Fittingly on Senior Day, Hailey Leidel poured in a season-high 26 points aided by a 6-of-11 performance from three-point land. Leidel also eclipsed 1,800 career points in the contest.

• Also in the URI win, junior Sam Breen produced her third straight double-double with a 17-point, 11-rebound effort. It was her seventh such performance this season and made Breen the first player with three straight double-doubles against Division I teams since Maggie Mulligan in 2017-18.

• At St. Bonaventure back on Jan. 8, the Minutewomen came away with a 62-52 victory. Leidel had 22 points, Breen came off the bench to contribute 13 points and five rebounds, and sophomore Destiney Philoxy returned from injury and logged a game-high four assists on the night.

• Breen entered the starting lineup on Jan. 29 vs. Richmond in a nationally-televised win and continues to make a splash. The Feb. 3 Atlantic 10 Player of the Week contributed at least 20 points in each of her first five starts, becoming the first Minutewoman since at least 1997-98 to accomplish such a feat.

• Freshman Maeve Donnelly's 74 blocked shots are third in the Atlantic 10, lead A-10 rookies and either tie or exceed four entire team totals in the league. Donnelly's 69th block of the season on Feb. 22 reset the Massachusetts program record.
