Game Notes Massachusetts

Need to Knows

• University of Massachusetts women's basketball heads back on the road this weekend, trekking to Saint Louis' Chaifetz Arena for a Sun., Feb. 16 game with the Billikens. Opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m. Central Time (3 p.m. ET) and the game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

• A win on Wednesday night would mark the second straight vs. SLU and also vault Massachusetts past its season total (16) from a season ago. The last time that the Minutewomen claimed 17 victories in a season was in 2006-07.

• The Minutewomen are looking to snap out of a three-game losing streak, most recently dropping a heartbreaker to league-leading and undefeated Dayton on Wed., Feb. 12. UMass led in the final minute thanks to an and-one by junior Sam Breen but the Flyers answered with a pair of free throws with nine seconds left to steal the 52-51 win.

• Breen entered the starting lineup on Jan. 29 vs. Richmond in a nationally-televised win and continues to make a splash. She was named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Mon., Feb. 3. She has contributed at least 20 points in each of her five starts to date, becoming the first Minutewoman since at least 1997-98 to accomplish such a feat.

• The tandem of Breen along with senior Hailey Leidel combined for 51 points at Davidson on Sun., Feb. 2. Of that figure, 31 came in a second half rally effort that saw Massachusetts trail by as many as 13 in the third quarter. In the Richmond game on Jan. 29, Leidel contributed 11 points, eclipsing 1,700 in her career and becoming the first player in program history to log 1,700 points, 600 rebounds and 200 assists.

• Leidel moved up to No. 3 on the Massachusetts all-time career scoring list in the game at George Washington on Jan. 26. The Brownstown, Mich. native (1,751) needs 40 points to tie former Minutewoman Octavia Thomas (1992-96; 1,791 points) for No. 2 on the list. She has made at least one three-point field goal in 46 of her last 48 games dating back to Dec. 7, 2018.

• With 65 blocks on the season, freshman Maeve Donnelly has set the freshman program record and needs three more stops to tie the program's single-season record of 68, last matched in 2017-18. Donnelly's 65 stops lead the Atlantic 10, are fifth in the country among freshmen, and either tie or exceed four entire team totals in the A-10.

• With a bye on deck, Massachusetts is idle until Sat., Feb. 22 when the Minutewomen face Davidson in a noon tilt back home at the Mullins Center.
