THE OPENING TIP: THE MASSACHUSETTS-BOSTON COLLEGE PREVIEW
• Fresh off the Thanksgiving holiday and a Nov. 25 win at Bryant, University of Massachusetts women's basketball heads down the Mass Pike to Boston College for a Nov. 29 tilt at Conte Forum.
• The game will be televised on ACC Network Extra will Bill Spaulding (PxP) and Eric Gallanty (color) on the microphone. Mike Baker will produce the broadcast.
• The Minutewomen were originally scheduled to play UMass Lowell on the road on Sat., Nov. 29, however that game was canceled due to a COVID-19 related pause in team activities at UMass Lowell. The Massachusetts-BC game was added to the schedule on Nov. 24.
• Massachusetts fired on all cylinders for nearly 40 minutes in the Bryant win and never trailed. Three Minutewomen in freshman Ber'Nyah Mayo, graduate student Maddie Sims and sophomore Sydney Taylor made their first starts with the Maroon and White, with Taylor leading the way in the scoring column on a career-high 24 points.
• Senior Sam Breen picked up where she left off last year as the Atlantic 10 Preseason All-Conference pick had a double-double (18 points, 13 rebounds). In her first collegiate action since 2018-19, Sims contributed 13 points, six boards, two steals and a block.
• Boston College is coming off of an 80-44 triumph against New England rival New Hampshire on Nov. 25. Taylor Soule paced the Eagles with a double-double effort (22 points, 12 rebounds), followed up by Makayla Dickens who added 14 points. Defensively, Marnelle Garraud led the way with four steals.
• UMass opens the new year looking to build on considerable momentum from 2019-20. The Minutewomen set a program record with 20 wins, including an all-time best 11 straight triumphs spanning Nov. 29, 2019-Jan. 11, 2020.
• The special run last year was capped off hosting an Atlantic 10 Tournament game at the Mullins Center, a feat not seen in Amherst since 1998. The Minutewomen knocked off St. Bonaventure in the A-10 First Round before exiting the tournament with a quarterfinal loss to Saint Louis.
