Menโs Track & Field Opens Up New England Championships

Three Minutemen advance to Saturdayโs finals and semifinals, while the squad picks up points in three events on day one.
ROXBURY, Mass. โ University of Massachusetts men's track and field opened up the New England Championships on Friday by sending three into Saturday's semifinals and finals and scoring in three more events to sit fourth in the team standings after day one. The Minutemen currently have 11 points, tied with Sacred Heart, trailing only UConn (67.50), Rhode Island (30) and Northeastern (28).

UMass' distance medley relay of Luke Militello, Javier Donegan, Nicholas Santos and Connor Ross teamed up to post a time of 10 minutes, 16.09 seconds to take fifth.

Senior Myles McDermott provided points in long jump, claiming fifth with a leap of 23 feet, 0.5 inches.

Junior Coston O'Brien was the third UMass scorer on the day, placing sixth in weight throw with a 58-foot, 2.5-inch toss.

Senior Michael Cuthbert posted a time of 21.90 seconds to take fourth in the 200 meter dash preliminaries to move on to Saturday's final.

Senior Noah Kortkamp qualified for the semifinals in 60 meter hurdles, clocking in at 8.35 seconds, which was good for seventh in the field.

Jordan Howard advanced to his semifinal, as well, placing 12th in 60 meter dash at 7.06 seconds.

The Minutemen will resume action at the New England Championships tomorrow, February 1, at 10 a.m.
