Menโ€™s Track & Field Takes On Beantown Challenge

The Minutemen placed seventh of nine as a team with 31.5 points.

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. โ€“ University of Massachusetts men's track and field took on the Beantown Challenge on Saturday at Harvard and finished seventh of nine in the team standings with 31.5 points. UConn won the meet, leading the field with 216.5 points.

The bulk of the Minutemen's scoring came in long jump where senior Noah Kortkamp claimed third (22'8.5") followed by senior Myles McDermott in fifth (22'5") and freshman Tyler Glendon in seventh (21'9").

UMass scored two in shot put with junior Coston O'Brien taking sixth with a 48 foot, 10 inch toss, while freshman Bradley Harunkiewicz was seventh with a throw of 45 feet, 10 inches. ย

On the track, senior Connor Ross captured sixth in the mile, clocking in at 4 minutes, 17.20 seconds and senior Dawson Bathgate placed eighth in the 3,000 meter run in 8 minutes, 54.35 seconds.

Rounding out the scorers for the Minutemen, senior Mason Lord was seventh in pole vault with a height of 14 feet, 3.25 inches.

Wrapping up the Harvard Multi Meet on Saturday with the final three events of the heptathlon, Matthew Tarantino took third with a score of 4,320 and Thomas O'Donoghue was fourth with a score of 4,296. After entering the day in fourth and fifth, the duo bolstered their scores in the 60 meter hurdles, where O'Donoghue was the runner up (8.88, 772 points) and Tarantino followed in third (9.12, 720 points).

Next Saturday, January 18, the Minutemen will travel to Rhode Island to take part in the Sorlien Invitational at URI.
