McTear’s OT Tally Lifts Massachusetts Past Dartmouth, 1-0

Minutewomen complete Ivy League weekend sweep
HANOVER, N.H. – University of Massachusetts field hockey and Dartmouth waged a defensive battle that saw regulation end scoreless, before junior Georgie McTear's game-winning goal sealed a 1-0 victory for the Minutewomen in overtime on Sunday at Chase Field. The result levels Massachusetts' record at 2-2, while Dartmouth is now 0-2.
Junior goalkeeper Marlise van Tonder picked up her first win as a Minutewoman after relieving redshirt sophomore Megan Davies (one save) at halftime, as the duo combined for the clean sheet.
McTear's goal came with 4:38 left in the first overtime period and was set up by a perfect long pass from freshman Jess Beech. Beech came up with an interception in the middle third before finding McTear, who dribbled right into the circle and fired her low shot just inside the left post for the victory.
UMass had several chances in regulation to pull ahead but a strong defensive effort by Dartmouth kept the match scoreless. Freshman Bella Ianni had an opportunity in the 12th minute before being turned aside by Dartmouth goalkeeper Isabella Santucci (seven saves). On a corner in the 24th minute, McTear's shot was inches from crossing the goal line, however Sara Falkson came up with a beautiful defensive save behind Santucci.
Massachusetts held Dartmouth to one shot on cage in the entire match and had nine of its own, while also drawing nine corners to just one for the Big Green.
The Minutewomen now focus on their home opener, a Sat., Sept. 14 meeting with UAlbany at the Gladchuk Field Hockey Complex which begins at 3 p.m.
