Women’s Soccer Drops Exhibition At Army, 2-1
August 16, 2019 | Women's Soccer
Hipp scored the lone goal of the match for the Minutewomen.
WEST POINT, N.Y. – University of Massachusetts women's soccer led 1-0 though 45 minutes, but Army scored two unanswered in the second half to down the Minutewomen in an exhibition match at Malek Stadium at Clinton Field on Friday evening.
"This was a good exhibition for us and Army was an amazing host," said UMass head coach Jason Dowiak. "We still have a lot of room to grow in our soccer, but I'm very optimistic about what we were able to display at times tonight. Each player got quality minutes, which will allow our staff to continue to evaluate everyone and give constructive feedback so that we can grow and get better for the season ahead of us.
"Our goal stemmed from a great team build up the field, finding freshman Ansley Frazier on the left side of the field isolated 1v1. She showed confidence well beyond a freshman running right at her opponent before cutting back sharply and curling an incredible shot upper 90 to the far post that Army's GK made an amazing touch save off the crossbar on. Jenny Hipp was, as we saw often last season, anticipating the moment and followed up the rebound with an authoritative finish!"
The Minutewomen will be back in action this Sunday, August 18, when the squad will host UConn in an exhibition contest at 1 p.m. on Rudd Field.
