Videtto Guides Baseball to Doubleheader Split at Maine

Redshirt sophomore goes 3-for-4, driving in career-high five in nightcap victory
ORONO, Maine – University of Massachusetts baseball followed a 1-0 game one setback with a 7-5 victory in the doubleheader nightcap at Maine's Mahaney Diamond Friday night. The teams will play game three of their four-game set Sat., April 20 beginning at noon.
Game 1
Maine 4, Massachusetts 1
Pinch hitter Ryan Turenne stepped up in a one-out, bases-loaded situation and hit a walk-off grand slam in the seventh inning as Maine came from behind for the victory.
Redshirt freshman Kane Medina drove in the lone run for Massachusetts, reaching on a fielder's choice that saw senior Ryan Lever cross the plate and put the Maroon and White on the board in the top of the fifth.
Senior Justin Lasko (2-4) took the tough luck loss for the Minutemen, while the win went to Maine's Nick Silva (3-4) after Silva delivered a seven-inning no-hit effort in a game that took just 95 minutes to complete.
Game 2
Massachusetts 7, Maine 5
Redshirt sophomore Anthony Videtto was instrumental at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a career-high five RBI as the Minutemen bounced back with a victory in the second contest of the doubleheader. Videtto, batting out of his usual cleanup spot in the lineup, was followed up in the five-hole by redshirt sophomore Connor Smith's 2-for-3 line which saw Smith drive in UMass' two other runs.
UMass initially jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first three innings on a pair of Videtto hits. In the top of the first he drove in junior Eddy Hart on an RBI single before belting a two-run double to center in the third, plating junior Nolan Kessinger and redshirt freshman Collin Shapiro. In the fifth Smith knocked in an insurance run with a single that scored Kessinger once again.
After a pair of homers pulled the Black Bears in front at 5-4 in their half of the fifth, Videtto and Smith immediately answered in the sixth inning with back-to-back RBI singles with Videtto's scoring a pair and ultimately moving the score back in favor of Massachusetts at 7-5.
Freshman Jack Steele (3-2) was the winner on the rubber with a five-inning start in which Steele fanned four while scattering five runs on six hits and two walks. After classmate Brad Collins posted a 1.2 inning relief effort, senior Casey Aubin came on with two outs in the seventh and induced a can of corn to Kessinger in right to lock up his third save For Maine, Matthew Pushard (0-2) took the loss.
