Women’s Swimming And Diving Announces 2018-19 Team Awards

The Minutewomen selected their 2018-19 team award winners at the annual banquet on Friday.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving team announced its 2018-19 team awards at their annual banquet on Friday, naming senior Ansley Baker the Most Valuable Swimming Performer and junior Maja Boric the Most Valuable Diving Performer.
Baker set a pair of program records at the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships, posting the first sub-23 second time in the 50 Free with a mark of 22.93 to win the gold. The senior added another first-place finish in the 100 Freestyle with a swim of 49.45 while breaking her own program record in the 100 Breaststroke in the league meet. On the year, Baker claimed the top spot nine times in the 50 Free, seven times in the 100 Free and five times in the 100 Breaststroke. Baker was also awarded the Minuteman Award at the banquet.
Boric qualified for the NCAA Diving Championships in the 1-Meter Dive for the second consecutive season after recording the sixth-highest average round score in the finals of the event at the NCAA Zone A Diving Championships to earn her spot at the national meet. The junior finished in seventh on the 1-Meter boards at zones after winning the gold in the event at the Atlantic 10 Championships with a score of 291.40 while taking second in the 3-Meter with a mark of 320.30.
Rachel Grant was named the Most Improved Performer after winning the 100 Butterfly event five times on the year, setting the UMass program record on her way to a podium finish at the league meet. Mia Flagiello was tabbed the team's Rookie of the Year while Natalie Gallamore was named the Spike Award winner.
Head Coach Bob Newcomb announced the team captains for the 2019-20 season, naming Paige Mitchell, Samantha Schieffelin and Boric to the roles for next year.
