The First Pitch
On the heels of a three-game series at UT Rio Grande Valley, University of Massachusetts baseball treks North in the Lone Star State for a Tues., March 12 game at Incarnate Word and a Wed., March 13 tilt at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi. First pitch at UIW is scheduled for 3 p.m. Eastern Time from San Antonio before UMass meets the Islanders at 7 p.m. Eastern Time on Wednesday night. Fans should note that the UIW game was previously scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Eastern Time but was moved up due to inclement weather in the forecast that evening.

Recap in a Minute
UMass was last in action on Sun., March 10, bouncing back with a win in the series finale at UTRGV by a 14-11 score. Every Minuteman in the batting order, one through nine, had at least one hit and four had multi-hit or multi-RBI games. The day also saw redshirt sophomore Connor Smith's first career grand slam and a career-high five RBI from senior Logan Greene, including a three-run homer.
Freshman Jack Steele picked up his first collegiate win with four innings out of the bullpen and classmate Daniel Livnat entered late in the contest for his first save as a Minuteman. On the offensive side both UMass' 14 runs and 13 hits were the most this season, with the former being a team-high dating back to an April 11, 2017 win over Central Connecticut by a 15-0 score.
Lasko Tabbed Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week
For his efforts at Navy on Sat., March 2, Lasko was named the Atlantic 10 Pitcher of the Week. The right-hander scattered five hits and struck out eight Midshipmen, three short of a career-high and lowering his ERA to 0.61. His outing capped a terrific doubleheader on the part of the UMass pitching staff, as Minuteman arms worked a total of 20 innings without surrendering a run.
Your Destination is in 90 Feet
With all nine Minutemen recording a hit on Sun., March 10, the UMass duo of senior Ryan Lever and redshirt freshman Collin Shapiro each have reached base safely in all seven games on the young season.
Remembering Dick Bergquist
Legendary former UMass baseball head coach Dick Bergquist passed away on Feb. 24 at the age of 86. Bergquist, at the helm of the program from 1967-87, led his ball clubs to 392 victories, seven Yankee Conference championships, two New England championships, one Atlantic 10 Conference championship and a fifth-place finish at the 1969 College World Series in Omaha, Nebraska.
