Ransford Breaks UMass Mark In 200 Fly, Minutemen Finish Sixth At Championships

Casey Ransford broke his own program-record in the 200 Fly on his way to a fourth-place finish.

GENEVA, Ohio – Casey Ransford broke his own UMass program record in the 200 Butterfly to highlight the final day of the 2019 Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday at the SPIRE Institute. The Minutemen finished sixth overall at the league meet with a team score of 346 while George Washington claimed the title.
 
Ransford's fastest time of the day in the 200 Butterfly came with a mark of 1:48.17 in the prelims before posting a time of 1:48.55 in the finals on his way to a fourth-place finish. Both times on the day surpassed his previous record-time of 1:48.63 that was set last season.  
 
Ben Gryski posted the fifth-fastest time in UMass history in the 200 Breaststroke preliminaries with a time of 2:03.16 before eventually finishing in 11th with a time of 2:03.38 in the finals. Luther Gordon added a top-10 time of his own, clocking in a time of 2:03.96 in the finals to rank ninth-fastest at UMass on his way to a 12th-place showing.
 
Seamus Trzewik-Quinn recorded his second top-10 UMass mark in as many days on Saturday, putting in a swim of 1:46.67 in the prelims of the 200 Backstroke to rank fourth-fastest before finishing sixth with a time of 1:47.21 in the finals. Kellen Gray added a 14th-place finish for the Minutemen with a time of 1:51.35.
 
Panagiotis Androulidakis led the way for a trio of top-10 UMass finishers in the 1,650 Freestyle, clocking in the 10th-fastest time in program history with a swim of 15:53.34 to finish seventh while Eric Pauls' time of 15:56.78 and Harry Ortof's mark of 15:57.71 put the Minutemen in ninth and 10th respectively.
 
UMass closed out the day with a time of 3:03.60 in the 400 Free Relay put together by Kyle Stefanides, Ryan Pedrick, Dias Konysbayev and Trzewik-Quinn to finish in seventh.
