Baker Sets Program Record To Win 50 Free At Atlantic 10 Championships

Ansley Baker clocked a new program-record swim of 22.93 to win the 50 Free on day two.
GENEVA, Ohio – Ansley Baker clocked in a new program-record time of 22.93 to win the 50 Freestyle on the second day of the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships at the SPIRE Institute on Thursday evening. Baker tied the University of Massachusetts record in the preliminaries earlier in the day with a swim of 23.22 before going on to post a new personal-best mark.

The Minutewomen divers put together a one-two finish in the 1-Meter Dive, led by Maja Boric's top-score of 291.40 in the finals as the junior claimed the 20 points for UMass. Katie Polk finished as the runner up to help UMass earn 37 points in the event, scoring 286.40 to record her best finish in the event at the league meet. Boric's win marked the first for her on the 1-Meter boards at the championships as she finished third in the event the last two years.

Baker was part of another new program-best mark on the night, teaming up with Chelsea Meiring, Rachel Grant and Mariam Labib to put in a swim of 1:32.78 in the 200 Free Relay to finish third to wrap up the second day of competition. The record time was nearly two seconds faster than the previous program-best time of 1:34.17 set in 2015.Â
Labib added a top-15 individual finish of her own in the 50 Freestyle with a mark of 23.59 in the prelims and 23.78 in the finals.

Olga Egkorova led the UMass distance swimmers with a 15th-place finish in the 500 Freestyle, clocking in a time of 4:57.53 in the finals while Kelly Malyszka finished in 23rd.

UMass heads into the third day of the championships in fifth-place with a team score of 143 with Duquesne on top with 229 points and George Washington in second with 206.
