Minutewomen Wrap Up Regular Season At Fordham

Maddie Biron, Maja Boric and Katie Polk picked up wins for the Minutewomen.

BRONX, N.Y. – Maddie Biron won the 100 Backstroke and added a runner-up finish in the 200 Backstroke as the University of Massachusetts swimming and diving team wrapped up the final meet of the season at Fordham on Saturday afternoon. The Minutewomen fell to the Rams 205-95 in the last meet before the Atlantic 10 Swimming and Diving Championships on Feb. 20-23 in Geneva, Ohio.
 
Biron was one of two Minutewomen to finish with both a win and a runner-up finish, first taking the top spot with a time of 59.34 in the 100 Backstroke for the first UMass win of the afternoon. The senior went on to clock in a time of 2:11.09 in the 200 Backstroke to finish as the runner-up while Steph Campo finished fourth.
 
Maja Boric opened up her afternoon on the 1-Meter board, scoring 284.05 to win with Katie Polk finishing third with a mark of 259.40. Boric went on to finish second behind Polk in the 3-Meter Dive later in the afternoon, scoring 278.70 while Polk took the win with a score of 289.95.
 
Kelly Malyszka added a pair of runner-up finishes for UMass, first in the opening individual event of the day in the 1000 Freestyle with a time of 10:34.18 before finishing second in the 200 Fly with a time of 2:09.71 as teammate Alyvia Petrozza finished in third.
 
Mia Flagiello followed up a fourth-place finish in the 100 Breaststroke by posting a runner-up swim of 2:26.79 in the 200 Breaststroke to lead all Minutewomen with Chelsea Meiring in fourth. Ansley Baker clocked in a time of 1:54.78 in the 200 Freestyle to finish second while Olga Egkorova took fourth before ending her afternoon with a runner-up time of 5:07.66 in the 500 Freestyle.
 
Mariam Labib posted a pair of third-place finishes on the day in the 50 and 100 Free while Rachel Grant rounded out the top-three finishers in the 100 Fly with a time of 58.74.
 
The Minutewomen head to the Atlantic 10 Championships on Feb. 20-23 at the SPIRE Institute. The league meet begins on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 10 a.m. with the 1-Meter Dive prelims followed at 6:30 p.m. with the finals along with the 200 Medley Relay and 200 Free Relay.
