Men’s Soccer Announces Team Award Winners

Graham Brenner was named the Team MVP while Ryan Saul and Shawn Allien were also honored.
AMHERST, Mass. – The University of Massachusetts men's soccer team recognized their team award winners at their annual banquet on Thursday evening. Sophomore Graham Brenner was named the Team MVP while senior Ryan Saul earned the Club Man of the Year award with junior Shawn Allien being awarded the Rookie of the Year honors.
Brenner (Londonderry, N.H.) was named the Team's Most Valuable Player after netting a team-high five goals as a defender with three game-winning goals. The sophomore had two multiple goal games, including both goals in a 2-1 road win at Duquesne as the Minutemen won three of their last four games. Brenner also played a key role in helping the UMass defense hold opponents to under a goal per contest.
Saul (Petersburg, N.J.) earned the Club Man of the Year award for the second straight season after dishing out a career-high five assists on his way to Atlantic 10 All-Academic Team honors. The senior picked up assists in two league contests, assisting against Duquesne and Saint Joseph's while recording the assist on the game-winning goal in the season finale against the Hawks. Saul was a defensive anchor for the Minuteman defense, holding opponents to a 0.94 goal average.
Allien (Medford, Mass.) was named the Rookie of the Year after starting all 17 games for the UMass defense during his first season in Amherst after transferring from Franklin Pierce. The junior was key in helping the Minutemen hold opponents under a goal per contest as he logged 1,552 minutes in the UMass backline.
