Minutewomen Cruise To 200-100 Win Over Vermont In Home Opener

UMass posted 13 event wins to go along with sweeps of the top-three spots in three events on the day.

AMHERST, Mass. โ€“ The University of Massachusetts women's swimming and diving team claimed 13 event wins as they picked up a 200-100 win over Vermont in the home opener on Saturday afternoon in the Joseph R. Rogers, Jr. Pool. The Minutewomen also swept the top-three spots in the 3-Meter Dive, 50 Free and 200 Breaststroke.

UMass' first event sweep came in the 50 Free as Emily Rudiman led a trio of Minutewomen in the top-three with a time of 24.80 while Mariam Labib and Kelsey Cordery followed in second and third, respectively. Rudiman went on to win her second race of the afternoon a handful of events later, clocking a time of 53.65 to win the 100 Free with Labib following in second and Cordery in fourth.

Mia Flagiello paced another sweep for the Minutewomen, this one coming in the 200 Breaststroke as the sophomore posted a top-time of 2:27.22 to edge out teammate Olivia Mozoki in second with a swim of 2:27.49 with Samantha Schiefflin finishing third. The win marked the second of the day for Flagiello, who went one-two in the 100 Breast earlier in the day with Mozoki.

Maja Boric led a sweep for the UMass divers in the 3-Meter Dive, scoring 289.35 to win her eighth consecutive diving event with Maddie Doyle and Beth Luther rounding out the top-three finishers. Boric started her day on the boards by winning the 1-Meter Dive while Luther came in second and Emma Petrovich finished fourth.

UMass opened up the day by winning the 200 Medley Relay with a time of 1:49.77 put together by Sydnee Aubin, Flagiello, Stephanie Judge and Rudiman as the Minutewomen won the first nine events.

Olga Egkorova led the way in the 1000 Free with a time of 10:41.48 to win while Kelly Malyszka touched the wall second to finish as the runner-up. Labib kept the winning streak alive in the following event, the 200 Free, rallying in the final 50 yards to win by .19 seconds with a swim of 1:56.65. Aubin followed with a winning swim of 59.68 in the 100 Back with Cordery rounding out the top-three.

Jane Denenberg posted the top swim in the 200 Fly to lead a one-two UMass finish with a time of 2:09.20 with Judge taking second. Judge followed up her runner-up finish in the 200 with a win in the 100 Fly, clocking in a time of 58.52 while Aubin took third. Denenberg also led all Minutewomen in the 200 IM with a second-place time of 2:12.75.

Reigning Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week Bella Snyder claimed the top-spot in the 500 Free, finishing with a time of 5:09.23 while Malyszka finished second with a swim of 5:14.98.

The Minutewomen will be off next weekend before returning to the pool for competition on Saturday, Nov. 2 when they welcome in Boston University for a 1 p.m. meet in Rogers Pool.
